Raw Feeding 101: How to Start
Transitioning your dog to a biologically appropriate diet is a process, and the right method depends entirely on your dog's age and health. Because heavily processed starches (kibble) and raw meat digest at completely different rates and require different stomach acidities, we do not recommend mixing them in the exact same bowl. Here is how to safely make the switch.
Method 1: The Clean Break (Best for Healthy Adult Dogs) For most healthy dogs, a direct switch is the easiest on their digestive system. Simply finish your last meal of kibble, and start fresh with a simple, single-protein raw meal the next morning.
Method 2: The Gradual Split (Best for Seniors or Sensitive Stomachs) If your dog has a history of GI issues or has been on kibble their entire life, their gut microbiome may need time to adapt. Instead of mixing foods, keep their meals separate. Feed their normal kibble in the morning, and a small raw meal in the evening. Over 7 to 10 days, slowly increase the size of the evening raw meal while decreasing the morning kibble until the kibble is phased out entirely.
Managing the Shift As your dog's gut microbiome adjusts to a biologically appropriate diet, it is completely normal to see some mild detoxing or loose stool for the first few days. Keeping a pure, single-ingredient pumpkin powder on hand to add to their new raw bowls works wonders to soothe their stomach and firm things right up while they adjust.
A Note on Safe Handling Our sub-zero freeze-drying process locks in the essential nutrients, enzymes, and proteins while significantly reducing the risk of bacteria compared to handling traditional wet raw meat. It provides the exact same ancestral benefits as a traditional raw diet but with the convenience of being shelf-stable and family-safe. Simply store the products in a cool, dry place, wash your hands after feeding, and routinely wash your pet's bowls.
